The auto industry has gone through some major changes in 2009. The advantages of electric propulsion over its conventional equivalent were broadly acknowledged, auto makers announced the launch of new electric vehicles (EVs), newcomers emerged in the market, and governments started to take a more proactive approach towards electric vehicles, which are not only more efficient but also cause less environmental damage.

Although the number of EVs in use is still small even in developed nations, their sales are growing at an unprecedented rate. In this age of globalization, it is only a matter of time before Brazil joins this trend. Some car makers have already made preparations to launch EVs on the market, while new companies are starting to manufacture and/or import EVs. Energy companies are also starting to show an interest in this new consumer niche.

EVs not only offer new prospects for electricity companies, they could also change the way distribution networks operate. When EVs are connected to the grid, aside from charging their batteries, they have the potential to bring benefits to the electricity industry.

These topics will all be discussed at our sixth event on the subject. Alongside the seminar and exhibition, there will also be a workshop on November 9th to discuss technology developments and the implications of EVs in research and education.

The exhibition opens on November 9th at 12 noon. The seminar begins on November 10th.

There will be simultaneous interpretation in Portuguese and English at the workshop and seminar.

Electric Vehicles

Electric vehicles (EVs) are vehicles that run on one or more electric motors. They include trolleybuses, which receive energy from overhead cables, battery electric vehicles, which are charged from the electricity grid when the vehicle is parked, and hybrid EVs. In this case, the vehicle also uses either conventional fuels or hydrogen fuel cells. Any kind of vehicle can be electric: two-wheeled, three-wheeled, cars, buses and trucks.
